Marissa Farrar offers a taut tale of madness and murder that while it took a little bit to get off the ground morphs into a fast paced struggle for survival Sasha the protagonist is likable and well written as someone selfless and kind The book starts with her lamenting her failing relationship and I immediately rooted for her to connect with Josh a fellow traveler with whom she has chemistry The Cambodian landscape was richly painted and there were some authentically creepy scenes Not wanting to spoil anything I won’t give away what is driving the people mad but know that when this thing takes over it is very very bad The life and death feeling came through and while the conclusion came as a sudden drop it was a nice twist that I wouldn’t have expected A recommended read

I’ve heard only good things about this author’s writing and to my surprise found that I have two of her books on my kindle Yes I have so many books on my kindle I’m constantly surprised at my discoveries Anyway “Dark Road” turned out to be a terrific read It’s chilling original unpredictable and void of mushy romance Exactly the way I like it What really stood out for me is how well the characters and the setting for their nightmarish ordeal were constructed considering that this is uite a short read I can clearly see why Farrar’s books are so popular A story about a folk legend thousands of years old coming to life for one night to terrorize a busload of tourists on the back roads of Cambodia is simply fascinating and frightening I loved it I’m positive any red blooded horror paranormal fan will be delighted by this novel
