It makes me happy that I am seeing and of these types of books getting published I look forward to sharing this one with my niece when she is a bit older The suggested age range is for children 7 12 years old but I can tell you as an adult even I enjoyed reading itThe book is split into 4 categories including Leaders and Activists Scientists and Inventors Artists and Writers and Athletes and Adventurers I give the author credit for selecting a diverse group of women to feature in the book Laverne Cox a LGBT advocate and transgender actress was featured as well as women with disabilities including some athletes who competed in the Paralympics And while some of the women are well known names such as Hilary Clinton Rosa Parks Serena Williams and Jane Goodall there are many females who most of us might not be familiar with but accomplished extraordinary things Each woman featured had a brief biography and illustration The amount of info provided for each varied from just a few sentences to around a page This is the type of book I would have enjoyed as a kid because I love trivia type facts like this and also it really doesn't reuire a long attention span as you can choose to read as many as you want in a sitting Definitely recommend as a good book to give a child as it really shows what types of things you can accomplish with some hard work and determination

Initially wanting to give this one a 3 star review I bumped it up because it is inspirational And the message to its readers whom I hope are both male and female alike is that girls grow up to do amazing things in this world The book is divided into four sections Leaders and Activists Scientists and Inventors Artists and Writers Athletes and Adventurers It's a uick peek at women who helped shape these four subcategories The uick peek lends itself to both incomplete and simplistic explanations though and that was why I wanted to designate it a three star read Because people are human we are flawed; but to whitewash some of the lives in this book does the readers a disservice Our kids are smarter than we give them credit for They also deserve the unadulterated truth with no sugarcoating Just ask my husband about Evita Peron; his father's side hails from Argentina and can attest firsthand to the atrocities doled out by the PeronistasA people inspired by democracy human rights and economic opportunity will turn their back decisively against extremismAlthough the world is full of suffering it is full also of the overcoming of itWe realize the importance of our voices only when they are silencedA truly eual world would be one where women ran half our countries and companies and men ran half our homesWe are here not because we are lawbreakers; we are here in our efforts to become lawmakersAbove all don't fear difficult moments The best comes from themLise discovered nuclear fission the process that powers the atomic bomb To her lifelong disappointment the Nobel Prize for its discovery was unfairly awarded solely to her fellow male scientist Otto Hahn However Lise did win many other awards and even has a radioactive element meitnerium named after herPhoto 51 Rosalind's detailed X ray image of DNA helped the molecular biologists Francis Crick James Watson and Maurice Wilkins identity the structure of DNA as a twisted ladder shape or double helix They used Photo 51 without Rosalind's permission and without crediting her In 1962 the three men won a Nobel Prize in ChemistryOnly if we understand will we care Only if we care will we help Only if we help shall all be savedThe world has used me so unkindly I fear it has made me suspicious of everyoneEven today Marie's notebooks are so radioactive that people have to wear protective clothing to handle them Nothing in life is to be feared; it is only to be understoodAll creative people want to do the unexpectedEven if you never have the chance to see or touch the ocean the ocean touches you with every breath you take every drop of water you drink every bite you consumeIt is often easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permissionYou can't help it An artist's duty as far as I'm concerned is to be an ordinary person doing extraordinary thingsI still believe in spite of everything that people are really good at heartIf you want to make something happen that hasn't happened before you'be got to allow yourself to make a lot of mistakesIf you do not tell the truth about yourself you cannot tell it about other peopleAt the end of the day we can endure much than we think we canI am too intelligent too demanding and too resourceful for anyone to be able to take charge of me entirelyIt is impossible to live without failing at something unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all in which case you fail by defaultIt's one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself to forgive Forgive everybodyThe most courageous act is still to think for yourself AloudThere may be tough times but the difficulties which you face will make you determined to achieve your objectives and to win against all the oddsWomen's soccer still faces huge ineuality A 2017 survey found that top male player Neymar who is from Brazil like Marta earned the same as all 1693 players in the top seven women's football leagues combined The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another We should raise each other up You don't have to be someone special to achieve something big You just have to have a dream believe in it and work hardDon't let anyone tell you you're weak because you're a womanI'd rather regret the risks that didn't work out than the chances I didn't take at all
