Christopher Huh's graphic novel depicting Ari's life during the Holocaust and WWII is truly amazing and inspiring His story is wonderfully detailed and shows the horrors that the Jewish people encountered This would be a perfect way to educate middle and high school students about this tragic time in history Kudos to Christopher and his family Highly recommend

Ing to help as often as they can Friendship and belief is all they have left in which the Nazis and the war strip away from the trio and ultimately brings the devastating disaster that awaits When Ari and his two friends are slowing down in a death march during a blizzard and his friend has frostbite Ari still helps his friend despite an SS guard approaching them with a pistol He even claims that carrying Saul was a challenge page 149 but does not want to leave him in the snow knowing the fate his friend would faceHe tries to help and aid his fellow camp inmates whenever possible During at his stay at Auschwitz III everyone fears one Kapo guard who is known for being a sadist on the prisoners with a rubber truncheon Ari not only stands up against the Kapo he even goes to the point of scaring him too The guard showed in his e. There is no review that could give this story justice Christopher Huh has created a beautiful and truly moving story that needs to be shared What he has written needs to be known This graphic novel has been set up as a frame story It begins in the present day where a young girl is uestioning her grandfather about his experience during the Holocaust Throughout his story Huh seamlessly transitions from present day into the past and back again several times By the end of the novel he has connected everything that happens and tied every event together Huh not only covers the major horrors of the Holocaust but also shows how hope and love prevail His protagonist Ari endures many hardships but both his loyalty to the ones he loves and his hope help him survive Even though many others lose their hope from the countless horrors Ari does not give up Christopher Huh is a brilliant author His uniue writing style and clear and at time stark illustrations have created a truly compelling graphic novel He contrasts the comfort of the present with the desolation of the past While Ari's current family members sometimes suabble over trivial matters Ari tells his granddaughter of the true horrors of humanity With this story Huh shows that there are true evils that we should not only recognize but work to prevent These evils still exist today Only by becoming aware of them can we learn how to prevent them Huh has tackled a difficult topic uite successfully and his graphic novel is one that deserves a place on every bookshelf

This illustrated graphic novel depicts WWll and the holocaust in terms and ways that will make it enjoyable for tweensteens to learn about this horrific period in time Christopher did a wonderful job of incorporating fictional characters to tell a factual tale of what it was like for people during the Holocaust It is well written and you can tell he put a lot of research into the development of this book I feel it would be a great tool for schools to use when teaching this historical period to children I recommend this for anyone who wants to learn about the Holocaust through a teens viewpoint Well done Christopher I can't believe this was done by a 14 year old his passion for this subject shows in his writings Maybe kids will want to learn about this time period in a fun yet informative way Bravo Christopher job well done Be Proud Give this to your children people everyone should understand the impact the Holocaust had on the world I received this book from Christophergoodreads to give a true and honest review and that I did
