For all the searching and trying to borrow a copy not one of Mary Balogh's best efforts It only gets three stars because Elizabeth and Robert from the first book in this series A Chance Encounter make a reappearance and make the story palatableWilliam is the hero and trying to heal the heart broken over Elizabeth returning to her estranged husband Robert who happens to be William's best friend William is easing his sorrow by checking out all his properties in England and Scotland At his English estate he comes across a young woman who says her name is Nell She's unspoiled and drawn to nature and the artsNell is really a noble woman named Helen who doesn't care for society's usual dictum and in the end its s She's taken with William and they end up making love in the woods a few times before William leaves They meet again in London where there are complicationsBoth hero and heroine are extremely naive and don't care about society but they do William is a wimp who lives the double standard he can love and leave Nell for most of the book when he thinks she's just a village girl Two thirds through he thinks maybe he could love her and thumb his nose at society by marrying beneath him Of course when he realized Nell is Lady Helen he immediately offers marriageDidn't really like either of them but enjoyed catching up with Robert and Elizabeth

How could she love a man whom she could only despiseHow could Lady Helen Wade possibly love a gentleman like William Mainwaring handsome and wealthy as he might beHow could she love this. I have mixed feeling about this book It could have been a 4 star It could have For 23 of the book I can understand the heroine's acts considering her eccentric nature As a matter of fact she is an interesting character a bit spoilt in her eccentricities yet so down to earth and carefree But then nearing the end she became a bit too much As for the hero I understand why some people may find him a jerk during the first half But again I think his character development is good He's obviously a beta hero which I like LOL Overall a 35 star

The Wood NymphIs seductive skills on an innocent young country miss he came upon in the woods especially when he was so successful in planting Eros's arrows and when his willing victim was Helen hersel. A bit sexist and Madonna Whorey The girl acted like a twit in the latter half The man was a self indulgent self righteous blowhard at times The poetry and contemplation of nature parts of the book were enjoyable
