I really wanted to love this book because the premise sounded great but I honestly have no idea what the hell was happening throughout most of the book The writing was erratic and I had a hard time following the action scenes or pretty much anything for that matter Even the characters were all over the place freaking out one moment getting along the next or suddenly kissing fighting or trying to escape something I didn't even realize was in the scene in the first place It left me feeling frustrated and confused two things I don't like being throughout an entire book I don't mind starting a book confused but by the end I should be able to put some of the pieces together but by the last page of this book I was still like WTFThe character development did not work for me either I guess I understand why Kayla was not instantly in love with Aiden was because she didn't remember him but I felt their relationship was just not flushed out enough for me to believe that they should have actual feelings for each other Plus the two of them couldn't stop lying to each other I don't think Kayla told Aiden one true thing till maybe the very last chapter while Aiden kept telling her he was going to tell her the whole truth and then would leave things out He must have said Okay don't get mad at me than anything in this book I ended up not liking him and in the end was totally okay with the action she takes in the final chapter But it wasn't just Aiden I couldn't connect with I just didn't like Kayla For the first 13 of the book she acted like a crazy person Wanting answers and then suddenly running away and punching people in the face only to turn around and ask how they got the bruise on their face I was like girlfriend you JUST knocked him out You can't be that stupid And don't even get me started on the beginning of the book I still have absolutely NO idea what the hell was going on and after finishing the book it didn't seem that what happened had anything to do with the story at all Overall I was pretty disappointed in this book I might check out the second book but I have so much on my reading list that knowing me I'll forget about this series completely since it really wasn't what I was hoping it would be Oh and a side note the cover has her wielding a wicked sword which is what caused me to notice the book in the first place but sadly all she rocks is a little hand knife Not impressed

St followRule #1 Never go out after darkRule #2 Always carry a weaponRule #3 No matter what never EVER get bitBut what happens when the rules Kayla has always lived by can no longer applyThe Highers run The Colony and accept nothing less than perfection One slip up can mean death Kayla has always worked hard to follow the rules and strive for perfection But during a moment of weakness she let. Intriguing enough storybut not without pitfalls POTENTIAL PLOT SPOILERS#1 Get an editor The amount of punctuation spelling and incorrect word choice passed vs past for example are just unreal for a book and it is distracting #2 Character development Other than the main character Kayla there is very little character development They speak of Dominic who we are supposed to dislike We only meet him once and everything else we're supposed to hold against him is hearsay#3 Plot holes Numerous plot holes throughout the book too many to mention#4 The conflict resolution in this book is ridiculous A major issues presents itself and within a paragraph either there is some memory or a new truth revealed that fixes everything Seems like a bit of a cop out #5 The amount of lying I get that this trait of lying was instilled in them but it gets very difficult for the reader to stand I found myself uestioning almost every word that came out of Aiden's mouth because he would contradict himself or something he lied about would surfaceAll honesty I feel like the book should have been longer or longer and cut in half I feel like the plot idea is good but really needed some substance and time added in I will probably read the 2nd one out of sheer curiosity of what happens

summary Darkness Falls

Darkness FallsS her imperfections show Her punishment is worse than death She is chosen for The Gathering and is thrown out into a world full of starving vampiresNo one has ever survived The Gathering at least that’s what Kayla’s been told But when she runs into a group who insist they were once part of The Gathering Kayla discovers the Highers have been keeping secrets Secrets that could lead to a cur. I have previously read Jessica Sorensen's Fallen Star series and enjoyed it so I decided to give her latest work a try Boy am I glad I did Darkness Falls is fantastic eclipsing even the Fallen Star books It's the kind of story that makes you scratch your head and keeps you going for 'just one page' trying to figure out what the heck is going on but at the same time it gives you answers uickly enough that you won't be missing hair by the end And finally FINALLY we have a story where vampires are just that snarling blood thirsty monsters Gotta love a good vampire slay The story the world and the characters were all perfect I 3 Aiden That's all I really have to say about that The only good thing about having put off this book until now is that the seuel Darkness Breaks comes out soon so I won't have to wait to long once again saving me some hair I would definitely recommend this read to anyone interested in the paranormal action and maybe a little budding romance And don't forget never EVER get bitten
